Write, dammit!

Frustrated

Yet another day passes without me having done anything on the short story challenge. Granted, I did need the weekend to relax after plenty of late nights over the past week doing computer stuff, but I still could've made some effort!

I don't think I ever mentioned the origin of the title of this journal. "Carn, write!" essentially means "Come on, write!", with "Carn" being a rarely used piece of Australian strine (ie slang). Since my fiction writing efforts are often done in bursts, "Carn, write!" is pretty much what my muse is telling me in the time between stories.

Right now, the subject line seems more apt as I struggle to find the time and motivation to write fiction. The short story challenge was an attempt to dramatically increase my productivity and satisfy the creative urge at the same time. Has it worked? Not really. Why hasn't it worked? The aforementioned distraction and my ongoing job-hunting situation seem to be the prime causes.

So what do I do now? I don't intend to abandon the 'short story challenge', but it is obvious that I have a great deal of work to do if I want to fulfil the ultimate goal : submission of one story and creation of three new ones this month. We're also going on a couple of trips this month, so that means even less time available for writing.

The procrastination has got to stop! Starting tomorrow (oh, yes -- I'll always get more done tomorrow) I've got to knuckle down and crank my fiction writing efforts into top gear. Otherwise I'm going to be pretty damn disappointed when December rolls around.

Wish me luck!
