Thunderstorms, Writing and Wiscon

Like most of the Midwest, we were hit by a series of thunderstorms over the weekend. Thankfully we didn't have any flooding or tornadoes, but the storms still made for some sleepless nights. The 65mph winds knocked another hole in our roof, so we've got a leaking ceiling once more (the same thing happened last July), and a tree branch fell down near our car, but I don't think it caused any damage. Hopefully that's the last of the storms for awhile!

We didn't do much over the weekend aside from reading, watching movies, shopping, and dinner at our favourite Mexican restaurant. The salsa was much hotter than usual and I think it killed my tastebuds. Whew!

The movies we watched were From Hell (this was quite creepy, and I was surprised to learn it had been adapted from a graphic novel), The Third Man (classic noir, set in post-WW2 Austria), and The Fast and the Furious (real dumb movie, but the cars were nice).

Very early this morning I finished a new story (Past the Deadline), once again based on a critique group Weekly Word (for the week before last). This was the short story I briefly mentioned in last week's entry.

I was feeling a little burnt-out after sitting in front of the keyboard for so long, but there's no resting this week--we're going to Wiscon this long weekend! I'll either have to get my weekly story done before Friday, or leave it until the following week. Hopefully I can get a quick flash piece done before then.

On Friday morning/early afternoon, we're going to check out a circus museum in Wisconsin (I didn't even know it existed before!) and then we'll lob up to the hotel for Wiscon. After the morning panels and signings on Monday, we'll head off to do some hiking in a nearby State Park, and go home after that. I look forward to seeing all you Journalscapers and other writer-types at Wiscon this weekend!
