Crikey, it seemed like only yesterday that we cracked open the bubbly and celebrated the New Year! Time flies when your New Year's resolutions seem more distant and outlandish with each passing day....

Despite it being March now, old man winter still holds on for dear life. It's snowing out there again, and the ploughs are busily rumbling up and down the street. This is the most schizophrenic winter I've seen here in the Midwest in the 5 or so years since I've experienced them! I can't remember--did the groundhog see his shadow this year?

Last night I made myself sit down and write copious notes and outline the plot for the new story while listening to The Chemical Brothers and Velvet Revolver on Rhapsody. Ordinarily I'd say "enough is enough!" and plunge straight into writing it, but with this one I'm just about biting off more than I can chew. I reckon one more evening fiddling with the scene arrangement, then I should dive in regardless. Dropping it and working on something else is out of the question at this stage--I'm keen on submitting it before the anthology reading window closes, and I'm anticipating this one will need a lot of work after the initial draft. I better get to it!

As a motivational experiment, I declare March "writing madness" month! My goals are to get this story done, to revise at least one of my existing stories and send it out, and to write another new one. Stay tuned to see whether I'm just full of hot air, or watch a miracle take place before your very eyes....

What I'm Reading:
The Troika, Stepan Chapman
Science Fiction Favorites, Isaac Asimov (audiobook, narrated by the author)
Locus 2004 issues: October, November, December
