Tragic news from downunder. Aussie icon and wildlife daredevil Steve Irwin died today after an encounter with a stingray. I still can't believe he's gone :(

I was always surprised at some of the crazy stuff he got away with, but it was obvious he was good around animals and gave them the proper respect. He was a great ambassador for Australia and seemed very well known here in the US, thanks to his Animal Planet appearances and others. He will be missed.

RIP Steve (1962-2006). You were a great bloke :(
