A few weeks ago if you'd told me there'd be a decent snowfall here in the middle of October, I wouldn't have believed it. But this morning it looked and felt like the middle of winter outside! If the trees didn't still have their autumn colours, the illusion would've been complete. Fortunately they haven't turned into lifeless, grey twigs just yet. By this evening most of the snow had melted, leaving behind a nice collection of dead plants.

Along with the snow came a rather nasty cold snap, which did an excellent job of killing our veggie garden for the year. Drat! Fortunately we were able to salvage a few things last night and did our best to cover up the lettuce and spinach, as well as a few of the green peppers and zucchini. We still had a fair number of tomatoes growing, so I snipped those off, branches and all, and put them in a box in the shed to ripen. We picked the bigger peppers, but most of them are still small. It probably didn't help that the zucchini crowded them out for most of the growing season.

Tonight everything looks pretty dead, including the stuff we covered. There might be hope yet for the lettuce and spinach, though. We'll just have to wait and see. Oddly enough, the roses seem to be unaffected so far....

Not surprisingly, I haven't done much writing lately. We've had a few false alarms over the past two weeks with the little bloke, and Carrie is on bed rest now, so I haven't had as much time or inclination to work on any new stories. It's a very nerve-wracking time. He could arrive any day now! We wrapped up the last of our childbirth/childcare classes last night, and our heads are still spinning with all the new knowledge. Now we might be just a little more prepared than we were before :)

About the only things I've felt like doing of late are working on the garden and catching up on some reading. I'm also currently pondering a collaborative story, although things are still a bit sketchy. The story could go in any direction at this point! I'm sure I'll figure something out to keep my collab partner busy. Hehehe ;)

What I'm Reading:
Lord of Light, Roger Zelazny
The Happiest Baby on the Block, Harvey Karp, M.D.
Breakfast of Champions, Kurt Vonnegut (audiobook)
