Last weekend I planted a bunch of veggie and flower seeds in some trays in our basement. Tonight I lifted the growlights and noticed several seeds had sprouted. We've got peppers, 4 varieties of tomato, brussels sprouts, broccoli, and onions. As for the flowers, there's lavender, violas, snapdragons, and coleus. This is all the stuff that needs a few extra months to prepare for the big planting come May.

It's nice to be starting these from seed. Last year we bought a bunch of seedlings, since I'd only just built the garden beds in April. Once the weather warmed up, I transplanted the seedlings and sowed the veggie seeds that didn't need such a long growing season. This year I'm planning on planting tomatoes in two large self-watering pots, peppers in a third pot, and everything else in the garden beds. We'll probably put the flowers in the wheelbarrow or around the side.

Now I get a few months to relax before the real work begins....
