2010-11-04 5:13 PM One door down... On the left, is what our front storm door looks like. Until today, our "back storm door" (which is really on the front of the house but over at the deck off the breakfast room) looked like the front door one. All battered up (mainly by dogs) and in need of serious attention. On the right, is our new storm door in the breakfast room. Installed by Paul and our friend Bill S. today. Starting at 8 a.m. when Bill arrived, and ending at 3 p.m. when he left. With no breaks in between. That is 7 hours. To install a storm door. I can't complain because I worked the whole time they were doing it. The dogs enjoyed having some activity in the house, which doesn't usually happen when they are here with just me. We have another storm door just like this one (green also) that is to go on the front door (see left picture above) but since it took them 7 hours to install one, Bill will be scheduling another day sometime maybe next week to come back and help Paul put it on there. Two in one day would have been out of the question. Why do they make things so difficult to install these days? Unlike our old wood doors, these new ones are metal. Our old doors were simple to install. These new ones require some form of higher education in door installation, I think. Bill does this type of work for a living, and even with that experience, it took the two of them 7 hours. The instructions were a booklet that was about a half-inch thick. Granted, some of it was in other languages, but still... The new door is very up-scale compared to our old one. It has a proper handle and latch AND a lock. I would have taken a picture of the outside but it's pouring out now and has been raining all day. That, of course, made the job all that much more difficult. Paul said he was completely wet thru to the skin at the end of it and needed a good hot shower. And it's getting cold here lately, too. I want to say thanks to Bill S. who did a fabulous job with very little complaining. He didn't even want lunch but I made them peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches finally and gave Bill a hot cup of peppermint tea with honey, which he only partially consumed. They were good workers, and didn't spend all that time shooting the breeze. So that's it. We have ONE of two new storm doors on now. You can raise and lower the glass and there is a screen up inside the top part that pulls down when it's warm outside. So here's to home improvements, may they never end (and they never do!)
