The Jackpot

We've got our Mega-Millions Lottery tickets for tonight's drawing. All set to go.

We are NOT gamblers here. Oh no.

Money is for essentials, savings, or DVDs, but not for gambling or other frivolities. But once in a while, one of the lottery games here gets a big pot, no one wins in a long time, and our Mega-Millions is officially at

$ 355 MILLION

right now. So Paul did his duty and spent $10 on 10 numbers and gave me the stubs. I will, of course, stay up late tonight (they don't draw the numbers until 11:24 p.m.) and see if all our troubles are over, or if we need to get up tomorrow as usual and get to work.

There was an article I read today in The Boston Herald on-line about how people who have won millions in the lottery are doomed to harrassment and constant bother by leeches who think they are owed some of the cash. It was actually kind of scary what some people have gone through after they've become rich - not a pretty sight.

But, of course, that wouldn't happen to US! Right?

I asked Paul last night what he would buy first if we won, and he thought for a bit and finally said "I don't know."

Me?

I'd buy a house in Nova Scotia (or Yorkshire England).

Goodbye Salem!
Goodbye work!
Goodbye noisy neighbors!

I don't know how hard it would be to emigrate to Nova Scotia, but I'm willing to look into it. My first choice, of course, would be Yorkshire, England, but being realistic, with the dogs, I think it would pose a problem with the quarantine and all - I couldn't do that to my puppers, not to mention flying in a plane - ugh... not for them. They would be too scared! So Nova Scotia ("New Scotland") is the closest I can think of to the UK and now I'm going to Google it and see it up-close-and-personal. Maybe check out the Homes for Sale there, too.

So this begs the general question to you, readers:

What is the very first thing you would buy if you were to win the jackpot?

Do I think we have the winning jackpot number?

Of course!

We could have it here just as much as anyone else could have it, right?

Wish me luck.

Cheers,

Bex

P.S. I think I've found the perfect home!
