Getting on in years...

oldphotos14J

On this day, sixty-two years ago, the picture above was taken. I'm told it's me, at my first birthday. There isn't any corroborating evidence, and all I have is the short-form of my certificate of live-birth to prove I was even born, but I still have a few memories of my life left in the old white matter, so I think I've been around all this time.

We here at the Cottage don't go in for celebrations of any kind, including those of birthdays, so today is no exception. My birthday this year has dimmed compared to the goings-on in England with the Royal Wedding and that is what I have been concentrating on. Not me. But I do want to say thank you to all you nice friends who did acknowledge my birthday today with your greetings. It's meant a great deal to me.

Yesterday as a treat to myself I made a batch of extra-chocolatey brownies, and I ate quite a few of them myself already. I also put in a DVD I've been meaning to re-watch, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, which I thoroughly enjoyed, even though it was interrupted several hundred times by dogs, husband doing yard work, trash men cometh-ing, phone ringing, etc. etc., going on at the Cottage. I did finish it and loved it even more than I had the first time. Maggie Smith is the best.

Having visited Scotland several times on our trips to the UK, I've always wanted to go back at least once more and really get to know some of our favourite towns there, like Edinburgh, but not sure that will happen now. So I've resorted to fishing through my DVD's for films that were filmed there and have been re-watching them lately. Just saw an episode of REBUS with John Hannah the other day. Good old Edinburgh. Another favorite town of ours was Nairn up in the northern part of Scotland, east of Inverness. We have a giant photograph of the beach at Nairn hanging in our living room that I took when we were there, and I gaze at it every day and remember.

I am thankful that I can still remember those things.

I must add a shout-out Happy Birthday to CrochetLady today, too. Hope your day is a special one for you.

So again, thanks for the greetings and I'll get back to my day.

Cheers,

Bex
