2011-12-10 10:48 AM And the Times (or rather "curtains") are A-Changin'... Well, I'm at it again. It's time for new curtains here at Crow Cottage.
The curtains I have at the windows in the kitchen and eating area are old and fading. I made them myself. They are lined with a green plaid material so as to make them reversible tab curtains, but I never liked the way the plaid lines hung so the plaid has always pointed outwards. They are too short for the windows, too, and now that the cold weather is settling in here in the Northeast, I want new, vibrant, longer, draft-eliminating curtains at these large windows. Currently, this is what I have now: That valance over the double window above the sink is huge, too. It is also lined with the green plaid and it's about double the width of the two windows. Miraculously enough, Country Curtains just sent me an email announcing they had some curtains on clearance! Oh Lucky Day. You may remember the caper of the living room curtains - the bold brick-red courderoy ones that I had all that trouble with in terms of the length, etc.? But they were such a bargain at Country Curtains. I love them, and they are up now for the winter and warming up the room just by way of the colour. So after meticulously going through all the options available for the new curtains on clearance at the Country Curtains web site, I have settled on and have ordered these: I am getting two valances (not the one shown above but a straight edged one) in the same fabric for over the windows by the sink, so I won't be making that huge long valance myself. I would have made it myself except that when I checked their site for "material" in this particular fabric, they didn't have it in the green so I had to go with the pre-made valances. That's OK. Saves me a little trouble. The curtains in the eating area are about 30 inches longer than I need them to be. So I will cut and hem them and use the extra fabric that I cut off to make smaller curtains for the back door which has a window on the top half of it. They should be here within a few days so I will keep you all abreast of my progress in that project. My new chair has not arrived yet. Yesterday when I was having a lie-in in bed, I thought I heard a big truck idling out front, so I had to jump out of bed pronto and get dressed at lightning speed (which for me now-a-days is about 10 minutes from start to finish), but by the time I got downstairs, there was no delivery truck anywhere. False alarm. Until something new pops up here, catch you all later. Cheers, Bex
