I Should Rename This Place "Curtain Cottage"!

The curtains arrived on Monday from Country Curtains. This company is efficient and prompt. Of course, I screwed up my order, as usual, and got 4 pair of these curtains when I only needed 2. I'm not sending them back. I figure I can think of something else to use the 2 pair of extras for like a tablecloth, or chair cushion covers, or whatever. They were so inexpensive ($14.99/pair marked down from about $60/pair) that I don't mind keeping the extras. I also have to make the smaller window cover for the back door window, too, but the pieces that I cut off the bottoms of these will be large enough for those. I had to cut approximately 30 inches off.

I have not hemmed these yet. I cut them, ironed and pinned up the hems on 3 of the 4 panels but ran out of steam at that point. It's harder and harder to do these projects all in one day anymore. The valances (2) over the sink area windows were all made up so I just had to get on the stool and wrangle the curtain down and put those up. Even that little job did me in for the moment and I had to rest a while. Whew.

I washed and dried the old curtains and may put them in Paul's room upstairs. Not sure yet. These curtains are a lot lighter weight than I'd thought they'd be. They are not lined, either, which slightly disappointed me. I could also line them myself if I were so inclined, but that probably is not going to happen. Once they are hemmed and up, they will remain there for a spell. A long spell.

By the way, thanks for your input (TT) on the turntable in my last entry. I went ahead and ordered it along with the phono pre-amp thingy and a vinyl record cleaning kit so I can at least start my listening enjoyment with clean vinyl records. They are all very old, as you can imagine. Some are mine (most) and some are Paul's and we have had them since probably the middle 1960's/1970's or so. I have two huge containers in the basement holding them all, but I have nowhere up here to store them. I brought a handful of albums up to play on my current turntable which is a piece of junk really. The sound is horrid. (See photo below - that's it behind the dogs).

It's one of those sets you buy that looks like the old record players in oak. I am not a nut about sound, but I do hope the new turntable can be plugged into my Bose radio/CD player and that the music will sound a lot better that way.

When that arrives, and if/when I get it going, I will report in on it. Otherwise, I am going to finish hemming my curtains now which should take me the rest of the morning!

Cheers,

Bex

I think I could turn and live awhile with the animals...
They are so placid and self-contained,
I stand and look at them sometimes half the day long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied... not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.
