A Happy Birthday Was Had By All... or On Chocolate Overload

bdayparty0001

First, I had to make the cake. Make my own birthday cake. Well, we are not like most people; we do things "bass akward" most of the time here. Paul worked all day, so I made my cake. It was a boxed mix, chocolate devil's food, but since Paul couldn't find the frosting in the store on Friday, I had to resort to making that from scratch.

Once the cake was done and the frosting successfully made and installed onto the cake, I had to convince you-know-who that this was not a giant dog biscuit but had to remain untouched until tonight, for the humans not the canines.

They are pretty good about not touching things they aren't supposed to touch, too. I have to give them credit there.

But there were some questionable looks from the floor-dwelling residents of Crow Cottage, let me tell you.

Anyway, cake done. The chocolate (fat-free) frozen yogurt was all stashed away in the freezer, too. For me, not him. Paul hates chocolate, by the way. So this is a perfect example of a husband going the distance for his wifey...he actually ate chocolate cake with me, with chocolate cream cheese frosting! He hates cheese, too.

For the main course, we ordered take-out from our favourite little local restaurant, Dube's, here in Salem and Paul picked up a big bag of sinful goodies, onion rings and fried clams. Oh my.

I made us a nice salad and we dug in.

Let's just say the time spent chowing down on this luxury dinner was over way too fast. Before I knew it we'd gone through half of the bag of goodies, so guess what? I have more for today! We must have gotten enough for 4 people in only 2 containers. Dube's is very generous with its serving sizes.

After that, we retired to the living room to watch our British show which tonight was an episode of "Heartbeat." After the show, we turned on the ballgame but decided we'd better get our dessert eaten now or it would be too near bedtime to eat all that yumminess.

Paul ate it all, except for the chocolate fat-free frozen yogurt. He had the rest of the Hood's Rainbow sherbert with his - I know, not a good go-together, but it was bad enough he was eating chocolate cake and frosting...

Now here's the rub. As much as I've been a chocoholic all my life, when I was done with my piece of cake, I almost wasn't enjoying it anymore. I think I may have overdosed on chocolate so that I may have cured myself of this disease!

The bad news is that Paul came home with these earlier in the day (well, good news but in the circumstances not so good):

Aww, how sweet. He had gone to get these at 7 a.m. before he went lobstering and they had been sitting in his truck all that time. And today was very sunny. So now I have all those little balls of yumminess for when I get the craving, but I'm not sure the craving will come again!

Anyway, it's the thought that counts. He's my sweet man. He truly is.

And I don't know what my life would be like without him with me. (Notice someone else wanted to get in on the meal, but nope, they weren't getting any of this!).

So that was my birthday party. Short and sweet. In many ways. Just the way I like it. But the best part of the day was to come later on. (I am actually writing this entry on Sunday but wanted to pre-date it for my actual birthday).

Yes, the ballgame. We came into this game against the Chicago White Sox having won 5 in a row. Miraculous. And the pitching was so good, on both sides really, that after the Red Sox scored 1 lonely little run in the 2nd inning (I think it was), there were no more runs scored throughout the entire game, and we WON THE GAME, 1-0, in the end. That's 6 wins in a row. We play them again today and are hoping for a sweep - which would mean a complete away game sweep since we swept the Minnesota Twins last week.

That's about it for now. I woke up today (Sunday) with what feels like a chocolate hangover. I have a lot of cake out in the kitchen now that I'm not sure what to do with. I may pick at it bit by bit. I'd send some to you all if I could but that's not gonna happen.

Cheers,

Bex & Co.
