Plodding along through time and space...

Hi,

Going thru a dry period. Not weather-wise, but word-wise. Idea-wise. Nothing is happening in the gray matter with me. It may be the heat that usually throws me for a loop every year. The blood needs to thin out before I feel like a human being, not that I ever feel that human anyway. I don't like to write when I'm down-in-the-dumps - just not looking for sympathy or anything, so I stay away.

I know. Sometimes writing/talking about it helps. There are so many people who have it far worse than I do. But I have been dwelling on things lately.

Anyway... here is something, actually two things, new here at Crow Cottage.

That, my dears, is a new pressure cooker. What? I can just hear you gasping all at once...

I didn't need a new one. I ordered it and then, hours later, tried to cancel the order but alas, it was too late to cancel. They said I could "refuse it" when it arrived, but I didn't. It's a Kuhn Rikon 2.6 qt. braising style pressure cooker. It was about four times the price of Presto, so I could not afford to buy it. But it's smaller and I wanted to see if it would be better for smaller items than the bigger Presto. But I never got up the courage to tell Paul about it, and so it is sitting on my NEW SHELVES with a little towel over it, hiding out for now.

Oh, you want to get a look at my new shelves?

OK.

These are actually two separate bookshelves. I got them here at Fresh Finds dot Com. Mine are "black" however they appear more dark brown than black to me, which is fine for my kitchen. They come all assembled and you just open up the sides and flip down the shelves. They are quite substantial and I put them up by myself, which was a trick as they were heavy to lift. They have pegs that go under the feet of the top one into little holes on the top of the bottom one. I needed a little more storage space in the kitchen. I was keeping my pans and Presto sitting on the stove and I don't like things cluttering up the stovetop. So now everything has a home.

The old shelves are here:

I actually have things now sitting in that little shelf in the breakfast room now. My crock pot and my electric dutch oven are on there which previously lived on top of the refrigerator. Now the only thing on the fridge top is my basket of onions and potatoes.

Oh, and of course there's this:

My ever-present helpers... good doggies.

Just click any of the pictures to see the rest of that album.

So, that's what's new here. I spent money I shouldn't have spent. I am on a very limited income here, and I just can't seem to get the hang of being frugal. It's way too easy to buy stuff now-a-days. Each month I tell myself that this is IT. I am done buying things I don't need.

I am watching the French Open tennis at the moment. ESPN shows it from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. each day, but there is no way I am getting up at 5 a.m. to watch it. So I've missed a lot of it. I can watch on my computer but it's not good quality and I don't care for that. Also, in a few minutes I plan to catch the National Spelling Bee on ESPN. I love that show and I've never seemed to be able to watch much of it before this year. I watched some of the preliminary portions yesterday where they eliminated all but the last 50 of the kids. They are so incredibly smart. I am in awe of these young people who can spell like this. There is even a very young girl in it this year, about 5 or 6 (?) and I will be looking forward to seeing her spell today (oops, she didn't make it thru to this section).

I guess that's about all I can think of. We've had a lot of rain lately so everything is growing like mad in the garden. Especially the grass. It seems that 2 or 3 days after it's been cut, it's back up there again screaming to be mown (? mowed ?). Mown. I think.

Oh, I almost lost this entry...better save it and get out of here.

Take care. Don't give up on me...I'll come around soon. I hope.

Cheers,

Bex
