2012-06-03 10:05 AM I say Hallelujah for The Voice... On another note....
One of my favorite people/writers/singers is Leonard Cohen. I tend to forget about his CDs and don't play them enough here. But then comes a day, like this one, when the weather conspires to keep my fisherman-husband home for the day, and he inevitably goes into the basement, which is his working space, and out come the Leonard Cohen CDs. I can hear his low booming voice in the background of my morning singing away down there, so I thought I'd just share a little of him with you. By the way, this is "a part concert-part documentary in which his work is interpreted by an array of singers" including some mentioned below, all singing Leonard Cohen's music, called: If you are any kind of a Leonard Cohen fan, this DVD is something you will cherish forever. Also, if you want just one fabulous CD of his greatest songs, I recommend: This is what I have playing right now and every song is to die for. One of his best songs is Hallelujah and below he talks about it. ...and then he sings it: There's K.D.Lang's version which is spectacular: ...and then there is 15 year-old Bobby Andonov singing it on Australia's Got Talent. It's incredible that a 15 year-old could do such a fabulous job: And if that's not enough, here is Leonard Cohen singing another favorite of ours, "Everybody Knows": Now I think I'm going to pull out my Leonard Cohen CDs and get his glorious voice cranked up on the Bose... I need me some loud booming Leonard Cohen right about now after all this teasing... Cheers for The Voice, Bex P.S. Three more Leonard Cohen songs for the road. I positively adore this version by Rufus Wainwright and his sister Martha: Hallelujah by Rufus and Martha Wainwright Antony's (stellar) version of: And last but not least, my favorite Martha Wainwright version of: That's all folks.
