It's a whole new day, and year...

Deep breath.

I am clearing my head of politics now. New year. New resolution (only one) in place, going on 3 days now... (no buying anything I don't "need").

My two projects that I had mentioned before are now whittled down to one project. The one that got put on hold was the knit kitchen curtains that I wanted to put on the below-pictured windows. My other project is going strong and I am happy with it but it will take me a long time to complete.

Kitchen curtains

While going through some storage boxes over the holidays, I found these white ball-fringe valances and thought they might work with the tension rods on the windows in the kitchen where i wanted to block out the view into my kitchen from outside. Wasn't sure these would work, but once they were up, I loved them.

This valance, made by me, was up on the top before:

I liked that valance but then I changed it to another one that I made, white and green (below)

...but with the little white ball-fringe curtains up there, I wanted more light coming in, so I removed the top valance and voila, more light but still some privacy from neighbors out back.

I know this isn't earth-shaking news, but this year I am hoping to get back to basics, so more projects around the house, and generally not concentrate on outside things that I can't control. I am so glad the election is over, the fiscal cliff is history, and today, very soon now, this country will be swearing in a bunch of women for a record high in the Senate. Not enough but more than before, including one from my state of Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren.

2013 is here and I am welcoming it with open arms. May we all prosper, get and stay healthy, and be creative.

Cheers,

Bex

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog...

He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world...

When all other friends desert, he remains."
