Plugging an On-Line Shop

When I run across a superior product, I have to plug it. Well, I don't have to, but I want to.

For many, many years we have had a bread-making machine, the original of which was given to us by my late mother. I've told this story before, but we let it sit for months before hauling it out and trying it. Since that first loaf, which was unbelievably yummy, we have been making our own bread every single week. It must be at least 20 years now, maybe even 25 years, since we've been doing this. We are on our 3rd bread-making machine now. We use it about every 6 or 7 days. I don't eat a lot of bread (that may change real soon!) but Paul does. He has 3 slices a day, one for his peanut butter and jam sandwich and one for his morning piece of toast to go with his bowl of homemade granola and orange juice. (At 68, he's still a "growing boy").

I used to make the breads from scratch, in the machine, using the little cookbook that came with the bread-maker. Then I discovered Bob's Red Mill bread mixes. For many years now I've been buying their 10-grain bread mix for Paul's bread. He finds it at our local food store and buys the packets of mix each week. To those mixes I always add a little handful of oats and also golden flax seeds to beef it up a bit.

Well, recently I stumbled onto this online shop called The Prepared Pantry. There were some mixes in there on sale for about half-price, so I ordered several things. I've just put in the 2nd bread mix today for Paul. He loved the 1st one! Even better than Bob's Red Mill.

I just went back and ordered a few more things including the one pictured above for me. If you go to their link for "Bread Mixes" and click on "All Bread Mixes" - wow, there is a plethora of different mixes to choose from.

Now if you don't have a bread-making machine, not to worry... a lot of these mixes are for baking in the oven, and if I'm not mistaken, on the package there are directions for making them either in a machine or in the oven.

Like this companion mix:

I ordered this today and it makes 4 large loaves in the oven. With the "bread helper" mixes, you add water and the flour, all the rest is in the package. It's very simple to put together and bake. These will be for Paul and possibly me too.

So that's my plug for today.

The Prepared Pantry.

Why not go out on a limb just this once and try one of these mixes? I have a mix that makes hamburger buns - I haven't made them yet but I have the feeling they will be good. More on these as I make them...

Cheers,

Bex-the-Bakerwoman
