2013-10-14 10:24 AM Come-From-Behind - Oh Yes! I love this picture:
It was taken when the Red Sox, by some miracle, came from behind to tie up the game, in the 8th inning, against Detroit last night in the 2nd game of the ALCS in Boston. We went on to win the game in the 9th. Wow. Unfortunately (for me), I didn't see it happen. The whole game, for me, was very sad and depressing and horrible. Detroit has some pitching like I've never seen before (me, being a "new" fan of only about 10 years). Game #1 was horrible, as well. We got NO RUNS then. We lost the game (obviously). We weren't supposed to lose that game but we did. Game #2 was a must-win for us (we need to win 4 out of 7 to go to the World Series). But for just about ALL of last night's baseball game, we were losing, first 1-0 for a long time, and then Detroit got 4 runs in one inning and it was 5-0. We somehow got 1 run in to make it 5-1, but with that pitcher of theirs, there seemed no way we could claw our way up to win it. No way. And I had gone to bed after only a couple of innings, so I was only listening on the radio, with my headphones, and after much anxiety over the progress of the game, I'd taken off the headphones and drifted off to sleep. I woke up around midnight and had to pee. When I got back, I stuck my headphones on (the radio was still "on") just to see what the final damage had been... the sad score. It was the middle of a post-game news conference and it was David "Big Papi" Ortiz giving the interview. That was weird, I said to me-self... and David was very somber. He answered questions about the game very soberly and slowly, and there was never any joy in his voice... just humility and sobriety. They never touched on the actual outcome of the game for quite a few long minutes while I listened. I figured it was a wash-out for us. Then a light dawned... a word or two here and there led me to think --- wait a minute! Come-from-behind-to-win.... did someone just say that? So I got under the covers and just listened to the whole thing and minute by minute my mood went from SAD to JOY-TO-THE-WORLD! Apparently, the bases got loaded for the Sox by some miracle or other and then it was David Ortiz's turn to bat. First pitch, he hit it OUT OF THE PARK! A GRAND SLAM! He had, with one swing, tied up the game 5-5. Oh how I wish I'd stayed downstairs to watch it all now... Then in the 9th inning we got Jonny Gomes on base, and our catcher, Jarrod "Salty" Saltalamacchia, hit a base hit that drove the WINNING RUN IN - Jonny Gomes touched home plate for the walk-off 6-5 win for the Sox. Oh. My. God. I think I'm having palpitations just thinking about it. Go Sox! Cheers for the Boys of Summer! Bex Click here for a short video of the excitement. Find your heart, open up both your eyes. We can all know every thing without ever knowing why. It's in every one of us, by and bye. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 2003 - Present Archives at Diaryland Read/Post Comments (8) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
