Not Quite Twenty Questions...

Could you go for another Meme? This one is from L'Empress. Thanks Harriet! Here goes nothin'!

1. What is on your bed right now?

It depends on what "on" means. There's the metal bed frame with wheels for feet, then there's the box spring and then there's a "memory foam" mattress that I put under my regular mattress, then there's the regular mattress, the mattress pad, the fitted sheet, and finally the duvet with duvet cover on top. Sometimes there's a dog on top of the duvet, but mostly not.

2. What's your favorite word or phrase?

"Hell-O!" But it must be uttered by my husband Paul upon his arrival home at the end of the day, up the basement stairs, out the basement door and into the kitchen to put away his lunchbox. He always says it exactly the same, "Hell-O!" and then I reply with a more subdued "Haaaaaaaai."

3. What is the best ice cream flavor?

Since I've been making ice cream mainly for Paul, I've experimented with quite a few different flavors. His favorite seems to be coffee and/or peppermint stick. I like both, but my all-time favorite flavor is chocolate. I never have made chocolate, however, because he doesn't like it.

4. Did you wake up smiling this morning?

I never wake up smiling, so no, not this morning. I wake up in pain most mornings (all mornings actually) which is not a smiling matter.

5. Is there something in your life you used to have, and now miss?

A healthy and strong, pain-free body.

6. What major company would you like to work for?

I would not like to work for any "major company." If I could choose, I'd be self-employed and doing something that involved books, art, and/or music.

7. What time do you wake up on a typical morning?

Seeing as how I very rarely actually sleep at night, not sure when the "wake-up" time is. I am aware of just about every hour going by in the night, but by 7 o'clock I will start to think about getting up, which may not take place til 8 or 9.

8. What holiday makes you sad?

Memorial Day.

9. Where does a good night's sleep rank on your priorities?

I would commit serious crimes for the guarantee of a "good night's sleep" - even risking prison time. It's that foreign to me these days.

10. One song that makes you cry?

Funnily enough, "Crying" written by Roy Orbison but SUNG by Don McLean.

Also, "Long, Long Time" by Linda Ronstadt:

but even better, by Tina Turner:

11. How old was your mom when she had you?

Twenty two - just a baby!

12. When is the last time you went to the beach?

I can't remember back that far.

13. What is the most random object around you?

My walker. I keep it near me all the time now because walking is very difficult and painful and I need it to get around. It's a fixture now wherever I am.

14.What is your favorite sushi?

I've only had sushi that I got at the food store, near the fish department, made up in packages. No raw fish involved, only vegetables rolled up with rice in seaweed wrappers... loved those. Would not eat the raw fish kind - ever!

15. What food do you find disgusting?

Raw meats or raw fish, with the exception of raw oysters. I have no idea why, but I used to eat them raw at the Boston Haymarket Square vendor who sold them, with a splash of lemon juice and tobasco sauce and swallow them down whole. Yum.

16. If you could have any type of dog in the world, what would it be?

A collie dog, of course!

17. What was the last meal that you made for yourself?

Brunch - which for me is breakfast and lunch every day around 11. I made a quick version of mac & cheese, totally on-the-spot and all in one pan, just because I was craving mac & cheese, and it came out fabulous.

18. Is the hard drive on your computer full or getting close to being full?

I have no idea, but I would like to know how I would check on that if any of you know?

19. Are there any songs that you prefer the acoustic version over the regular version?

I am an acoustic kinda gal, that's my real love, plain old guitar playing and singing. None of this electric stuff, although there is ONE song out now that is obviously man-made electrical music, called "Wake Me Up When It's All Over" and for some reason that song rocks my socks!

Finis!

I wonder why someone went to all the trouble of dreaming up these questions and then stopped at number 19? Couldn't they just round it off with one more for 20 questions? Oh well.

I keep hearing that mac & cheese calling to me from inside the refrigerator, where the rest of it is waiting for suppertime. I can hardly wait til then... just for that delight. If anyone would like my recipe, let me know and I'll do a blog on it. Again, it was fabulicious!

Again, thanks Harriet for this one.

Cheers for the memes in all of us,

Bex
