The most exciting blog entry EVER!
Did I fool you with the title?
I know, I know.
This will be my 3rd Meme in less than 2 weeks. Sorry. I will stop for a while after this one. But Nina DID ask me to do another one, so I found this one done by L'Empress recently and just had to have a go at it myself.
Yesterday, some readers addressed some of the meme questions in my Comments section, which I hadn't expected, but that's fine. Everyone doesn't have a blog, and everyone doesn't always want to clutter up an otherwise single-themed blog with these silly things. But I find them fun, so here goes, and I promise to wait at least a month before doing another one, OK?
(Maybe we could have a designated Meme Day each month, like the 15th, or something? Anyone have any suggestions about that idea?)
1) What's your favorite candle scent?
A: Eucalyptus - I have been known to suck that smell right out of a whole storeful of eucalyptus-scented candles before... I'm sure they were all odorless by the time I left the store! I have scented candles lying around my home just as a room deodorizer, I don't actually ever light them.
2) What female celebrity do you wish was your sister?
A: My real sister is a female celebrity to me. Even though we hardly ever talk or see each other, I admire her so damn much that no "real celebrity" could ever touch her in my estimation.
3) What male celebrity do you wish was your brother?
A: I do have a brother whom I also never see, and we seem to conflict whenever we have been together. I would not wish to have another, different brother, but I wouldn't mind being related to the Colin Firth version of Mr. Darcy from "Pride and Prejudice" - just because... c'mon!
4) How old do you think you'll be when you get married?
A: I agree with L'Empress, who makes these up? Anyway, I have two answers and they are in the past tense, I was 22 and 38 when I got married.
5) Do you know a hoarder?
A: I used to. I had a neighbor near here who seemed like a hoarder to me. She had stacks of junk all over her house on the few times I ever went inside her home. She just never seemed to throw out much trash and kept it all in piles. She died, unfortunately, way too young at around 62 or 63, and her house was sold off, the new owner had to take out all that stuff and do a gut job on the house, and now a woman lives there who, I believe, is probably very neat and tidy. A happy ending for that little house.
6) Can you do a split?
A: Also, like L'Empress, I could do one "back in the day" - I also took dance lessons and acrobatic class (now known as gymnastics). I contorted my body into all sorts of unnatural positions. My mother would trot me out to company to show them how I could turn my single upright body into a human pretzel.
7) How old were you when you learned how to ride a bike?
A: I wasn't keeping a calender back then so I don't know the year or my age, but I learned right around when all the other kids in the neighborhood were learning because I was a tomboy in an all-male neighborhood and I wasn't going to be left behind when they all hopped on their Schwinns and took off for parts of the town unknown. Maybe I was 7 or 8? I honestly do not know. We ARE talking about a 2-wheeler here, right?
8) How many oceans have you swum in?
A: Only one, the Atlantic. I have swum in some lakes in my day, but not too many, some in New Hampshire, some in Indiana, and not sure about Maryland... I was working that whole time and didn't have much time for swimming there.
9) How many countries have you been to?
A: Three.
10) Is anyone in your family in the military?
A: No. My husband is a veteran of the military, but not currently IN the military. Dad was also a veteran, but he's gone on to greener pastures now.
11) Have you named any of your body parts?
A: I should have because I regularly berate my body parts on a nightly basis when I am in bed trying to get into a pain-free position for sleeping and can't.... hips, knees, lumbar spine, all get quite a talking to by me, so maybe if I give them all names, anyone who happens to be listening won't think I've gone completely over the edge.
12) If you had a child today, what would you name him/her?
A: It took Paul and me an entire week to pick a name for Kip before we went and picked him up. I can't imagine how long it would take to name a child for us, but since we decided early on to never have any, it's a moot point. When I was married to husband #1, however, we had decided, if we had any children, to name them Ida and Otto, for private reasons.
13) What's the worst grade you got on a test?
A: F. Yes, I got an F. In French class one year. Oh I could not stand that teacher either... he was a disaster and so is my knowledge of that wonderful language. Actually, the F was what he said I would get if I didn't spiff up my test scores, and he brought in my parents and humiliated me in front of them. I eventually got a D on my report card in that class and then never took French again.
14) What was your favorite TV show when you were a child?
A: I Love Lucy, and The Pat Boone Show.
11) What did you dress up as on Halloween when you were eight?
A: If you think I can remember back to when I was 8, you are very much misled. It's all I can do to remember what we are having for supper tonight these days. That said, I do remember vividly one year when Mother suggested we be hobos, and she did us up really well in Dad's old clothes with coal soot on our faces, etc. Have no idea how old we were but we had to be under 10.
12) Have you read any of the Harry Potter, Hunger Games or Twilight series?
A: No, no, and no. I've seen only one of the Harry Potter movies but I'm not into fantasy stories.
13) Would you rather have an American accent or a British accent?
A: Oh, definitely a British accent. If only I could wake up one morning and be totally British speaking. Now which dialect would I choose? Of course, the Yorkshire accent would be first choice, but the Liverpool accent has always intrigued me a great deal, having met a few people from there... love their accent. A nice thick Scottish brogue would do me fine, as well. I know I'm being a traitor, but my heart is in England and always will be.
14) Did your mother go to college?
A: The first person in my immediate family to attend/graduate from college was my "little" sister, Sarah, who is 14 years my junior. My great grandmother, Lucy Ella, graduated from "Salem Normal School" which is now Salem State University here in Salem, but can't recall any others. I was privileged to attend college for 2 semesters but personal/marital problems led to my dropping out and leaving the state back then.
15) Are your grandparents still married?
A: I have only ever known one grandparent, my Nana, but her husband, my grandfather Fred, died 2 weeks before I was born so never knew him. They were still married when he died, but he was famous for being unfaithful to her for years.
16) Have you ever taken karate lessons?
A: No.
17) Do you know who Kermit the frog is?
A: Of course! Doesn't everybody?
18) What was the first amusement park you've been to?
A: Revere Beach where they had one of those old rickety roller coasters that I would go on every chance I got... You couldn't PAY me to get on one of those things anymore.
19) What language, besides your native language, would you like to be fluent in?
A: If wishes were fishes, then I would love to be fluent in French, Spanish, Russian, and the Celtic languages.
20) Do you spell the color as grey or gray?
A: I spell it "gray" but in Britain it is spelled "grey" I believe. So if I'm being American, it's "gray" or if I'm speaking to British friends, I'll sometimes use "grey."
21) Is/was your father bald?
A: No. In fact, at 76 when he passed on, he had a pretty full head of mostly black hair with a small bit of gray sprinkled in.
The End.
So that's that. Meme week is over now at this blog. I wish more readers who have blogs would take the jump and do some in their blogs. I do love reading them, and I know others do, as well. Some do not and to those readers, please accept my apology for this one, the third one in two weeks!
I have just put together the ingredients of a homemade bread-machine bread for Paul. Normally I use the mixes for his breads, but we ran out of mixes and he ran out of his bread this morning. So I got out the recipe book that came with the bread machine and whipped up the fixings for a whole wheat honey bread for him. It's in the other room making mixing noises now. I can smell it too, and what a great smell that is.
Ta ra and cheers,
Bex
