Musical Love...

As you may (or may not) know, I am a huge fan of

THE MILK CARTON KIDS

I am on their email list and got an email the other day saying they have been nominated for a Grammy Award (which takes place in late January 2014) for their album called The Ash and Clay.

I got the information below from the GRAMMY.com web site. They are in Music Category #49. It boggles my mind that there are EIGHTY TWO (82) categories of music in this Awards show.

Here is the M.C.Kids' category:

49. Best Folk Album

My Favorite Picture Of You
Guy Clark
Label: Dualtone

Sweetheart Of The Sun
The Greencards
Label: Darling Street Records

Build Me Up From Bones
Sarah Jarosz
Label: Sugar Hill Records

The Ash & Clay
THE MILK CARTON KIDS
Label: Anti Records

They All Played For Us: Arhoolie Records 50th Anniversary Celebration
(Various Artists)
Chris Strachwitz, producer
Label: Arhoolie Records

I have never watched a Grammy Awards show before, and I hope I can stay up and see my guys at least perform on the show but better yet, to WIN in their category. That would be very special indeed.

I've been watching their web site as they have spent this past year doing live gigs all over the world. I suspect they will be quite exhausted after this past year.

Here is some info from their Email about what's been happening with these two talented young men, Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale:

Wow, look at that 6 month schedule for the first half of 2014 for them. They are hot.

This is one of my favorites of theirs, The Jewel of June:

Recently, I read an article about a local coffeehouse in Marblehead (The Me and Thee Coffeehouse) that's been located at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Marblehead for many, many years. We've gone to a few shows there but it's a late night and now that we're geezers, it's just too much. The last person we saw sing there was the great folk singer Cheryl Wheeler. So I wrote to the woman who did the article and asked if they had heard of the Milk Carton Kids and that we'd probably make the effort to go if they were to show up there! She wrote back to me saying oh yes, they knew of them and they had TRIED to get them to perform there but they've gotten so popular so fast, their fee for performing is way beyond what the Me and Thee can afford. So they have outpriced themselves!

That's OK. I go to bed when their musical evenings are just getting underway anyway.

I just wish they would stay home long enough to put out another album. I have all three of theirs and I've played them so much that one is skipping in a certain place now. I am wearing them out!!!

NOTE: This was included somewhere in there:

The Milk Carton Kids partner with Joe Henry and Over The Rhine for a live album recording over two nights at Duke University's Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, NC, April 11th & 12th. The material will consist entirely of new songs, written in collaboration, which engage, respond to, and reimagine the great American songbook.

So a new album maybe by the end of next year!

I hope the people who vote on the Grammy Awards see the genius in these two musicians and that they win their category. But just to be nominated, as they say, is a very big honor!

Go Joey and Kenny! We love you!

Cheers to my Milk Carton Kids,

Bex
