2014-05-15 10:56 AM Clean-up Thursday Just a little housekeeping on a couple of things.
1) The inflatable collar - always a topic of discussion. Here is the one we got at the recommendation of the vet: You put the dog's actual collar on the inside of this thing (we used her tick collar which is white), and supposedly that is supposed to keep it on her. Not! Em had this thing on for all of 2 minutes, she bumped into everything and would just stand there, wanting the "thing" to move and not her... and then she got fed up and put her paw underneath the collar and just slipped it off! Easy-Peasy! 2) My new chair. A gift from my darlin' man. He very rarely surprises me with anything, in fact, I can't remember the last time he did it. But I mentioned I was looking for a little chair to sit in, on the small front porch, and now I have one. I feel positively like a pampered princess with my own little throne outside... Overseeing things from inside: This is the hub currently - where the girl-dog is spending a lot of her time, under my watchful eye and near to her family...in her little bed... healing... I love this tree. I planted it, along with 19 other tiny trees, many years ago. I bought them from the National Arbor Foundation and they sent me 10 trees - and I bought a double order, or 20 trees. Only a few remain but these have grown so large that Paul has had to trim whole trunks off them because they were so close to the house. This is a golden rain tree... here are two shots of it - and I have no idea why the two shots are so different: Something to do with light and the camera. I know nothing about cameras - I use the automatic settings and I never know what will turn out. I used to manually do camera settings but that was back in the day of film etc., way back there, when I had more working brain matter going on upstairs... As an aging old-age pensioner now, I need "automated" stuff going on. But those trees came to me in a small paper padded bag, and they had a few tiny roots and a small twig, maybe about 3-4 inches in length... It was an act of faith when I planted those things around the garden way back then, but some did grow... I gave some away to neighbors, some are long gone, but these two out back have survived the more than 25 years I think they have lived here. I'm guessing, but it was maybe after we'd been here a few years that I put them in. The two photos above are of the tree (below) on the left: On the right, above, is the other tree in that group, which is a white flowering dogwood tree. You can see that one has leafed out earlier than the golden rain tree has. There are others of these trees out front, down along the property line toward the street. Below you can see three of them, in front of the fence that Paul built... I know the front garden is a mess... Paul has not mowed that portion yet, and the grass down near the street is a mess... more weeds than grass. It gets all the salt and sand dumped on it during the winter, too... and we have never been a family who seeds grass at all. We just mow what comes up! If you look at the picture above, at the far left is the ever-growing Scotch broom plant - which will be a beautiful yellow flowering shrub in just a few more days from now. It's popping out now with a tinge of yellow as you can see. Unfortunately, these plants don't seem to have a very long life span. We've had several and they get just so big and then they start to look messy. And below, more colors coming out, very slowly though... this year has been strange: Lastly, Home Tweet Home... swinging in the breeze. I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure there are either eggs in there or hatched babies... because I see little birds going in there regularly... so I'm hoping it's being enjoyed by its tenants... That's all for now. See you again soon! Bex & Co.
