2014-08-28 9:08 AM Sixty Six Days Later - Market Basket is Back! The best news EVER hit the airwaves last night after around 10 p.m. or so.
After 66 days of being unable, and unwilling, to shop at our local Demoulas' Market Basket grocery store because their former beloved CEO, Arthur T. Demoulas, had been fired by the Board of Directors, we now can look forward to doing our next shopping at our own beloved Market Basket here in Salem, MA. I have been saying all along, mainly to Paul as he is my main audience but also to the dogs, friends, and anyone who will listen, that once Market Basket opens its doors again with a fully-stocked store, they will probably experience a huge increase in customers wanting to shop there. It may be mobbed up there. It's always been a very busy place, but the way it's been run, all organized by their beloved leader, Arthur T., the great numbers of customers are not inconvenienced if it's an especially busy day because they have a long line of registers in every store and all the registers are open and working, unlike so many other big grocery stores that only have a few open registers at any given time. "I've always said, we're in the PEOPLE business first and in the food business second." I've just listened to Arthur T. speak at the Tewksbury Market Basket for the first time since this all started, back on June 23, 2014. Sixty-six days ago. He was inspiring and heartfelt... I've shed a few tears listening to this man who is truly a good person. "Words cannot express how much I appreciate each and every one of you. Words cannot express how much I miss you, and words cannot express how much I love you. You are simply the best." It's been suggested Arthur T. be named MAN OF THE YEAR, by whom I don't know. Time Magazine? Business Weekly? The Wall Street Journal? All of the above, IMO... he IS the Man of the Year - to us and to all his customers, his associates, and his family - which he says includes US all! I heard on the radio last night that this case will be THE teaching case used in Harvard Business School as the way a CEO should run a business. It's a model of how things should be done. Oxford University also, I believe, will be using this as an example case of this. The trucks are rolling in with product to be loaded onto the empty shelves and I am confident that our next shopping day, which will be within about 5-7 days now, will be spent at our own local Market Basket here in Salem. What a wonderful day! Cheers to the Good Guys, Bex-the-faithful-customer-&-supporter-of-Market-Basket! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 2003 - Present Archives at Diaryland Read/Post Comments (7) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
