2016-02-18 8:54 AM Winter is Whittling Away... I come here, I click on "add entry" and I expect my fingers to do the talking... when my brain isn't quite engaged yet. That isn't working so well for me lately. Anyway, since I'm here, I'll continue.
We were in the deep freeze here, then it warmed up to 50's, melted most of the 6 or 7 inches of snow we got... ...and now it's feeling kind of like pre-spring around these parts. You can tell spring is in the air when we put out something for the birds. The snow that was piled up in the bird bath melted so they have a little fresh water now. I asked Paul to see about getting a "suet block and cage" that you hang in/on a tree for the birds to nibble on... something the squirrels won't bother too much. I hope. He got one yesterday and hung it in the crabapple tree out front. So far a few birds have found it but not the huge flock that I'd envisioned... I'm patient, though. I'll wait, and they will come. I think I saw somewhere (probably on facebook) that this coming weekend was when we, here in the U.S., change the clocks... forward an hour. It's in February now-a-days, which seems quite early in the year, and I'm not sure why this changed from it being much later in the year (like March or April)... so if anyone knows why this is, inquiring minds want to know! (NOTICE: It's not this weekend!!! I just found out - it's on March 13th! So ignore my previous info!!!) On the computer homefront, I've finally got my new "Esme" settled in. I did spend some time yesterday having an "on-line chat" with a Veriz0n employee about something, and I think we've got that cleared up. I hope. Then, I went ahead and got the equipment needed to do my regular back-ups (an external hard drive) and my computer-guy-cum-across-the-street-neighbor, Bob, came over on Tuesday and spent a few hours here with me doing the first EVER back-up. All these years of using a computer and I've never done one! I never thought it would work, being the ever-pessimist that I am. I figured that after I finally got things running smoothly on Esme, once I tried to back-up my data, things would all break down and not work. I was wrong. The original back-up took just over 3 hours to run. Then, the next day, I did it manually just to see how long subsequent back-ups would take, and it took about 2 minutes. Wow. Something went right?!?!?! Watch the video to see how to do this. So here I am with a functioning computer, my back-up all up and running and scheduled to run once a week, AND I was able to get the files from my old hard drive (from the laptop that died mysteriously) and they are available for me now whenever I want to copy them over to Esme. I have done some of them, but I didn't want to overload the new machine just yet. So, I think that'll be it for now. I could go into other things, like how my car wouldn't start the other morning for Paul, but is working now... or how we had to leave the faucets dripping for about a week during a sub-zero cold snap (sub-zero being the REAL temp and not the real-feel one). But I'll leave all that alone for now. Here are my boys... one doing his Sudoku puzzles and the other doing his nappies... my girl is behind the coffee table, doing her own nappies in her little bed. Cheers, Bex & Co.
