Brainsalad The frightening consequences of electroshock therapy I'm a middle aged government attorney living in a rural section of the northeast U.S. I'm unmarried and come from a very large family. When not preoccupied with family and my job, I read enormous amounts, toy with evolutionary theory, and scratch various parts on my body. This journal is filled with an enormous number of half-truths and outright lies, including this sentence. |

2004-11-15 7:54 AM Conversation with a friend My friend the Indian chemistry professor called up last night. Needed some advice on a traffic ticket. So we did the normal talking about stuff.
He participated in the get-out-the-vote drive for Kerry on election day. He went to a very conservative city, and went door to door to get people to turn up at the polls. Got some pretty nasty responses, but felt glad that he could be involved. Like me, he was a bit surprised at how angry Democrats felt about the loss. He disliked Bush enough to actively go door to door to get people to vote, but he wasn't particularly bitter about the results. He thinks that Bush is a better marketer than Kerry, and he did a very good job at targetting his message. (Incidently I should check with my sister in Oregon. She was employed by the Kerry campaign) We went round on Israel too. He thinks that Arafat's death may represent an opportunity for some progress. I think that Sharon is not interested in peace and will simply take advantage the confusion to solidify his position. In my opinion, Sharon decided a long time ago that he was going to take the West Bank and throw away Gaza. Every gesture that he has made towards peace has been an attempt to placate the U.S. He is playing take two, give back one; take two, give back one. I don't he hates the Palestinians, I think he has just decided that the only way to secure his nation is to eliminate the opposition. In a decade or two it will be a done deal, and then slowly people will get used to it. Why is it that criticism of Israel gets you labelled an anti-semitic, while criticism of Saudia Arabia doesn't get you labelled anti-Arab? (Btw, if you hate Arabs you are an anti-semite too, since Arabs are semitic.) People can lambast the Catholic church all to hell, but no one accuses them of being prejudiced? Say something negative about the state of Israel and you get labelled a bigot. Off the political topic, my friend has taken up knitting recently. He knits during faculty meetings. People are arguing and they ask for his input. His response: "When you start talking about something I give a shit about, I will let you know. Meanwhile I am knitting." Pretty ballsy for a guy who is up for tenure at the end of the year.
Of course, everybody knows this anyway. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
