Brainsalad The frightening consequences of electroshock therapy I'm a middle aged government attorney living in a rural section of the northeast U.S. I'm unmarried and come from a very large family. When not preoccupied with family and my job, I read enormous amounts, toy with evolutionary theory, and scratch various parts on my body. This journal is filled with an enormous number of half-truths and outright lies, including this sentence. |

2005-08-28 7:54 PM Wedding Crashers I saw the movie "Wedding Crashers" last night with a new friend. Hilarious. Especially the montage at the beginning. Basically, the two main characters go to dozens of weddings and pretend to be wedding guests in order to find vulnerable women to have sex with. Yes, it is shallow. Yes, it is sleazy. But they liven up every wedding they go to, and somehow we are left with the impression that they aren't really hurting anyone.
Of course, it all begins to fall apart when Owen Wilson's character falls in love with Claire, the one of the bridesmaids he is there to con. Claire is already engaged to be married, and Wilson is going to have to work overtime to tease her away from her jerk of a fiance. Meanwhile his partner Vince Vaughn has attracted the unwanted attention of insane Gloria, who just happens to be the sister of Wilson's new love interest. Vaughn reluctantly uses this strange relationship to get himself and Wilson invited to stay at their parents' home for the weekend. Vince Vaugh is utterly hilarious as are the other members of the family. Not only has Vaughn attracted the attention of the insane daughter, but also has her gay brother chasing him. Christopher Walken plays the straight laced father of the family, who has no idea what is going on around him. Meanwhile, Wilson has attracted the unwanted attentions of Claire's mother, played by the very well kept (and surgically enhanced)Jane Seymour. Wilson's story arc follows a predictable path, with expected revelation of the huge fraud and accompanying rejection, followed later by the embarassing public declaration of love. There is however, a completely unexpected twist about 4/5ths of the way through the film (at least for me) that kept my interest as the movie worked it's way towards its inevitable conclusion. My new friend is an English Lit grad student who used to be a ballet dancer. She liked the movie as much as I did, and the two of us had a great night out. Not much else to report. Went on an eight mile hike with my brother 6 of 12 (for those not keeping track I am 5 of 12) on Saturday, wherein we discovered the joy of shouting "Beech!" every time we saw a beech tree. Also discovered a previously unknown (to me) gorge hidden near big college town. 6 of 12 reminded me that it was my oldest sister's birthday on Sunday, so I called her up and wished her a happy one. She has a month and a half left before she delivers her son. Meanwhile, she is taking her oldest daughter around to look at colleges. Oh well, it's 4 a.m. I woke up about an hour ago, and I should nod back off before a busy week at work starts. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
