The amount of spam email I have been getting seems to have tripled or quadrupled in the last few months. My gmail account has over 1800 spam messages accumlated in the past month, which works out to over 60 messages a day. My regular email account gets about half that. My work account is getting at least a few a day too.

I heard an article on NPR that indicated that there are a bunch of criminal gangs that send 80% of the spam, and that a lot of it is sent from home personal computers that have been unknowingly hijacked. The article said that there were something like 100,000 hijacked computers.

I wonder if other people have noticed an increase in the spam they are getting.

MY two instant messaging service require permission for a user to send me messages, and I don't seem to get any spam requests that way. I wonder if there ought to be something similar for email now.
