2002-06-11 4:03 PM Clarion nostalgia Mood: That longing for something that happened in the pa |
Spent some time reviewing the journals of the current Clarion 2002 class and was bludgeoned gently with waves of nostalgia for East Lansing and the Clarion days. I was so insulated from everything, I had cash in my pocket, bills paid off, and firm sense of my writerly responsibilities. The weather was beautiful and I was surrounded by great people (though, as I've said before, just a little squirrely).
I hope the current Clarion-ites are having as good a time as I did. It was an easy adjsutment for me. Years in the Army and lots of temporary duties have made me well-designed for long stints away from the home base. But everything out there was so wonderful at Clarion that it would've been impossible not to enjoy myself. Nice room, tolerable food and refriegerator full of beer, nothing like it ever. SF writer's paradise. I don't know if any of the current Clarion-ites read this journal but my only advice to having a great time would be to ask for seperate checks when you go out in a group. Ask for seperate checks as soon as you order! It will save much heartache and grief. Also, if you have to ship items through the mail, send it 1st Class. The fucking post office lost two boxes of my stuff that I send 4th class book rate. Fucking dicks. Other than that, enjoy yourself(s).
