No apologies for not journalling! Oh, and teaching is going well

I've been a little sick the past few days and tonight I took some antihistimines which put me to sleep around 10 PM Friday night. Now it's 2:30 AM Saturday and they have worn off completely which has ruined my Friday night and left me with insomnia and time to update the journal.

My first week of teaching went well enough. No surprises on any front - the new freshmen at Widener are nervous and tight-lipped, the night class at Temple has some great people and some quiet ones, the 8 AM class at the community college is groggy. I've been doing research on the web on how to make a class both more participative, but also not more of a workload for the teacher (i.e. me).

I gave up talking to the SF writer about avant garde fiction. One reason is sheer frustration, the other is that with all the class prep, I've not been a good writer lately. I want to develop a schedule for working and writing and the burgeoning romantic relationship I'm pursuing. It's tough.

I'm going to take a U.S. Postal Service exam on 9/19 to become a letter carrier. I'm sure that I'm smart enough to pass, but what are my chances of getting hired? Beats the snot out of me.

In my free time, I've been reading David Antin's "What it means to be avant garde." I've studies his talk poems before in small doses and they've impressed me. Reading a whole book is another issue. His work is basically that - talking, or, monologues. Monologues are great when the subject interests you, but otherwise they are just that - monologues.

The syllabus for my Widener and Temple University classes is centrally planned, but I'm excited that I get to teach the following books in my CCP English 102 course:
Death of a Salesman
Metamorphosis by Kafka
Post Office by Bukowski
Fight Club by Palanhuik

Should be a good course.

The best part of all is the paychecks I'll be getting soon: I'll net around $2,600/month which will adequately supprt my rock 'n roll lifestyle.

Some of my ex-girlfriends are still friggin' loopy, others are just great.

WHAT WOULD BLAISE CENDRARS DO?
