2002-10-13 8:04 PM Two Books Mood: Voice of Indistino! |
Today was one of those rare days where I finished reading two books on the same day - Bukopwski's "Post Office" because I'm teaching it this week; and Steve Aylett's "Slaughtermatic" because Aylet falls into the elite category of writers that I want to be like.
It felt really good, putting down two novels within hours of each other. I've got to finish the first six chapters of the Bhagavad-Gita by Tuesday evening and I should get a head start on "Fight Club." My humanities class got very sticky Thursday night because I was teaching the Noble Koran. I tried to cover easier topics like the differences between Christian faith and Muslim when it comes to discussing Adam, Abraham, and Moses, but the class quickly fell into discussing the real meanign of "jihad" and Muslim methods of conducting war. The Noble Koran is much more sympathetic in how it prescribes to treat captives - after the war is over, they sould be released and maybe ransomed. The Bible says to sow fields with salt, kill the menfolk and sell women and children into slavery. I also tried (in the limited time available) to tell my class that the current struggle between a few bloodthirsty reactionaries and the West is more or a political and economic struggle, than a religious one. I hope I got the message across. In other news, still struggling with the women issue. Nothing is materializing and its beeen almost a month since my last +Biblical+ relation. Getting resltess. WE MUST AWAKEN. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
