Both F+SF and Ideomancer have rejected my works. Unfortunate, but part of the game. In the next few days I'll be sending out some heavily revised Clarion stories along with some dense prose-poem blocks.
These little rejections distress me, but one thing I've learned is that persistance pays off. As long as I'm writing and submitting, then I'm doing something. It's a lot like dating; a man has to get rejected by large numbers of women before he finds a style that works. I'm not just talking about the "can we go out for coffee?" proposisiton rejections, but also the inncocent flirtation rejections. Even those can lose steam after a few words, "Hi, nice hummus you have there." "Thanks," said she and walked away disgusted. Another rejection. But I didn't stop trying. Hell, it took me eleven friggin' years to get down M.T.s' pants. It was worth it too. Let's just hope that it doesn't take eleven years to break into writing. There's also the example of the Foreign Service. I've been trying over the past six years to get onboard that outfit and only recently have I made any progress. I've got my courses lined up for the spring: 1 Eng 102 at CCP 2 Eng 102's at Widener 2 Intellectual Heritage's at Temple University plus 8 hours at Widener's Writing Center. It'll keep me busy but I'll be bringin home over $2,200/month. Goddess knows I need the money. I spent the weekend with the new woman at my parents. It was pleasant. She was perturbed that I intoduced her as "my good friend" when I should have said "girlfriend" but I weathered the fall-out quite well. I'm 31, you'd think I'd've learned by now. Guess not. Tomorrow she and I go to Boston to meet her sister and her sister's boyfriend. It'll be a long ride, but roadtrips are in my blood.
