2005-12-15 12:24 PM My Advent prayer for today... Read/Post Comments (4) |
...only partially tongue-in-cheek:
Dear Lord, give me the blessing of graciousness, that when people stream in and out of my office today lobbing sarcastic complaints about my executive decision last night to postpone the Session meeting due to inclement weather, I may be able to accept their comments as loving critique, intended to make me a better shepherd for my flock, and not just a bitching session, intended to make me feel like a dork. Dear Lord, grant that I may have the oportunity to attend meteorology school, so that I may be more fully able to predict the weather more accurately myself, and not have to rely on the five sources I consulted last night before making my decision. Dear Lord, help me to understand that when the elders of this church say things like "It's Snow Belt State, for cryin' out loud! We drive in blizzards!!", it's not a comment designed to make me feel like an outsider, but rather a declaration of praise to You for the winter beauty of this wondrous state we live in. Gracious Lord, strengthen my abilities to read minds, so that I may know in advance exactly which dates will not work for every. single. member. of. Session. This will help them to feel cherished and loved by their Pastor, since their every need will be met, and no Elder will be incovenienced. Grant these things we pray...
