For today's Friday Five, tell us about five ways you have spent a spring vacation or holiday, pleasantly or un-. And as a bonus question, describe your dream spring vacation.
1. Too poor to go anywhere exotic, most years in college, I went home to my parents' place to feel sorry for myself. 2. The one exception is the Spring Break of my college sophomore year, OEH and I went camping with a friend of his. We went to a state park in Southern Indiana. We were only gone for two nights, but much hilarity ensued when a huge storm broke out, blowing our tent down the first night. We three slept in the 1970 LeMans with the rusted out floorboard, she in the front seat, OEH and I in the back (Hey, we were sharing the one sleeping bag--what choice did we have?) The next morning we were determined to go into the nearby town and buy rope to tie the tent poles more securely to trees...but first we had to dig the car out. It had sunk up to the axels in mud during the storm. OEH later drew a cartoon depiction of the trials of that trip on a paper plate, so we could describe it to our friends back at school. I still have that paper plate somewhere. 3. On Spring Break when we lived in California we would take the kids to do "touristy" things, like the beach, the boardwalk, Alcatraz, ride the cable cars in the city. Fun but relatively cheap stuff. 4. We had ski week every year in California, which coincided with President's Week. We usually went to this beautiful place for a few days. The nearby ski resort is another place we built fond memories. 5. This year I am going to Florida for Spring Break, finally, after almost 43 years! My mother-in-law and her current spouse live here. We have only visited them once since they moved there, while we were in California. I broke down and bought a new bathing suit today, my first new one in about eight years! Yeah, I'm looking forward to this vacation. Still thinking about the bonus question... Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
