Fuck! Why does no one tell me these things? Oh well... Someone here said something rather nice and about him that I thought was interesting. Not my first choice of reasons to visit New Orleans, but shit, I have so many as it is... This biography is somewhat out of date, obviously. George was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1947, and attended Yale University, where an organic chemistry course disabused him of the notion of becoming a doctor. He had the opportunity to meet many of his SF idols thanks to his first wife, who was Damon Knight and Kate Wilhelm's babysitter. With their encouragement, he began writing science fiction in 1970. To date he has published about twenty novels and six collections of short fiction. Beyond his science fiction, Effinger has written two crime novels, Felicia and Shadow Money. He has plans to work further in the mystery and crime genres. His most recently published novel is The Exile Kiss, the third book in the Budayeen series that began with the award winning When Gravity Fails. His first computer roleplaying game, Circuit's Edge, based on the world of When Gravity Fails, was released in the spring of 1990 by Infocom, and R. Talsorian Games released the When Gravity Fails module for their popular Cyberpunk roleplaying game in the spring of 1992. He is working on a followup to that game module, collaborating with Walter Jon Williams to combine the worlds of When Gravity Fails and Hardwired. Well, if you've never read the man's stuff, you can get it here. Or hit your local library. I'm going to bed. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
