Everyday is like Sunday...

Mood:

So, Sunday.

Let's see...

Hit the Sunset Junction Fair 'round 2pm, just in time for Brian Grillo (formerly of Extra Fancy) to get on stage. I was a fan of this band from the first time I heard them play way back in '90-whatever at the Fair and was bummed when I heard they'd broken up. So there was no way in hell I was going to miss his solo performance, even though all the damn band members looked annoyingly familiar. I don't think they were ex-EF members, but maybe they'd played the SJF before? Anyway, Brian rocked out with all-new (to me) songs, even though he was still beating on that fucking oil drum for some of his songs. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you...) Other times, he was just jumping up on it and/or straddling the thing. I've noticed he holds the mic in pretty much the same way rockers like Henry Rollins do; in a fist. Never did find that comfortable, but then, shit...I prefer to have the damn thing in a stand if at all possible. As usual, Grillo put on a great show, though there was none of the wilder antics from the old EF nights at the Fair; stage diving, going out into the crowd, etc. Regardless, I had a great time. After the show, I considered trying to figure out where he was gonna be playing next, but my LA training stopped me. Don't bother the man. Get the information elsewhere.

After that, I wandered the Fair a bit, explored, and waited for my phone to ring. I acquired free condoms, some stickers, pamphlets, got an HIV test, won some ugly plastic sunglasses, and tried out a new Ginseng soda by Sobe (which resembled Dr. Pepper in taste). I wished I had some actual money on me so I could partake in some of the lovely (and overpriced) fair food, but it was not to be. I ended up jogging back home for a bite before dark.

Later that night, The Girl and I hit Kink, where we dug The Scene and hung with The Crowd. Some decent music, a damn good show, and a few tips for my own education were all on hand. Not bad for three weeks straight; next Sunday, I'm going to do my damnedest to drag Jean there, though I suppose if she won't budge, I'll compromise with Dungeon, which I haven't been to in a while, now.

So yeah, that pretty much covers Sunday...
