So I woke up at, like, 0930 or something and couldn't really get back to sleep. The alarm wasn't gonna go off 'til 10, so I eventually decided to get dressed and let her sleep.

Eventually, she got up and it was time to vacate. I packed my stuff, relinquished the pieces of clothing she'd decided she was taking from me and stuffed everything in it's appropriate bag.

I said goodbye to my room and closed the door behind me.

Downstairs, I dropped off the key, told 'em I was checkin' out. They said, "Cool."

I waited for the word on possibly incurring any incidentals. There were none.

We booked.

Down Kearny to California, looking for someplace to have brunch before I headed to the airport. Nothing really sounded good, so we settled on Boudin. (I was kinda half-hoping Chilli!Up was still offering the Tuscan chilli, but to no avail...) I briefly considered bringing home a loaf of sourdough, but decided against it.

Afterwards, I was treated to mini-doughnuts, which are tasty and expeditious (heh). They're also cheap as hell.

Following that, we descended to the subway, taking it all the way past the baseball field to the train station, then grabbed a train to the airport shuttle. On the way, I read her Bruce Sterling's Twenty Evocations. If you haven't read it, hunt down Schismatrix Plus or an old copy of Crystal Express.

The shuttle was the final leg. When it got to SFO, we kissed and hugged a final time. I got off. Outside the shuttle, I pressed my palm against the glass, like a prisoner in the visitor's room. I had trouble looking at her, now.

The shuttle pulled away.

I took a breath, cleared my eyes, and headed for my plane.
