waving David

We had John's parents on speaker phone. John said, "Say hi to Grammy and Grandpa Joe, David. Wave to them." And David lifted his little hand and waved at the phone. We were in awe. We hadn't been drilling that trick, and it's the first proof of him actually understanding something. He certainly doesn't seem to get, "That's too loud; the rusting pipes under the bathroom are not for grabbing; or, wait a minute I need to eat too." Or, he understands but forges ahead anyway.

We are having a language explosion in our neck of the woods:

More/All Done--He bounces in his chair and waves his arms frantically. Like so many languages which one he means is contextual. Actually, we have seen him sign "more" and "all done" is definitely the ASL sign, just done with great enthusiasm.

Father—Ok, it's akin to dadadada, but he does make the sign. He has yet to sign "mommy."

That—I hear "dat" all the time. I'm not sure if it means, "I want that," "what is that?" or "look at that!"

Sister—He was repeating after me and it came out "dister," but John and I both heard it.

My first spoken word was "hello," Rose's was "uh oh." Here are the leading contenders for David based on what he hears the most:
