If I had a hundred hats on my head
a hundred hats a hundred colors
a hundred hats a hundred colors and shades of colors
a hundred hats a rain of colors

if I had a hundred hats on my head
I’d go into the market place
clear me a way to the market place
and toss them in happiness

if I had a hundred hats on my head
I’d go into the market place
and everybody would clear me a way
and wait for my waving the hats

if I had a hundred hats on my head
a hundred hats a hundred colors and shades of colors
if I had a hundred hats and a high sun going
straight to my head straight to my colors

oh the crowd ready to shout its cry of praise
its great heart thumping in the square
heart of the crowd waiting

for the waving of a hundred hats	a hundred
				              colors and shades

Ok, this is a new feature on journal Debby. It has nothing to do with the cute things my kids have done today or philosophical issues of parenting. Here’s a poem I read, liked, and want to share with you.

It sort of feels like a child’s drawing of a rainbow. On the one hand, it’s the most simplistic outline—simple words and lots of repetition, and on the other, an explosion of joy. I can just see myself as the person walking through the marketplace with all those hats on my head. I particularly like the shades of color—five different pinks perhaps. I like both the audacity of putting your exuberance out there and the communality—the crowd responding and joining in.
