David falls off his chair at dinner. John’s in the kitchen juggling the microwave, milk cups, plastic plates, and prunes. I’m right there on the floor next to David. “Oh honey,” I say, gathering him into my arms, “That was a bonk. Where does it hurt? Let me kiss it.” And, of course, I get, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy, kiss it.”

Yes, folks, the pendulum has swung mightily in the Daddy direction. Want a book read, booboo kissed, a friend to golf around the house with? It’s “Daddy do it! Daddy come now! Get Daddy!”

And if that’s the case, I bet you’d like Daddy to change your diaper, give you a bath, and put you to bed.
