David has shown no signs that he's ready to potty train, but John was buying socks, so he went ahead and bought David some Thomas the Tank Engine underpants. So, of course, David had to try them on immediately. He made it through three hours, including a fight with his sister and a time-out, dry. He went to the potty half a dozen times. He had so much fun. And then his system failed him, and he pooped.

Poor heart broken boy. We told him how proud we were of him for staying dry so long. We told him George had five accidents in his first day of underpants. We let him put the next pair of underpants on even though we really should have been taking a bath and going to bed.

He obviously recovered because when he pooped in his underpants again (something was disagreeing with his system), he took it in stride.
