2010-06-11 5:09 PM the librarians fawn over Rose Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) We had a really fun trip to the library yesterday. Rose decided she wanted more books by Jessica Day George. I explained to the librarians that these were novel length retellings of classic fairy tales. Rose explained what she liked about the books--they have some mystery and you worry about what's going to happen. . . I left her explaining and when I came back one of the librarians turned to me and said, "I love this girl with all my heart."
There she stood, pink pants a little too short, a headband, a backpack, her eyes with that far away look as she described adventures. I think the librarians saw themselves. Both librarians went crazy finding her books. One told me fairy tale retellings were her favorite type of book to read. Rose now has a stack of seven to plow through. I only recognized two names--Donna Jo Napoli, because she was a professor at Swarthmore, and Sharon Creech, my new favorite children's book author. I think we are both going to have a lot of fun.
