Happy Mother's Day!

Ok, I'm a day late, but my mother's day was a bit grim. Truthfully, we consider this a Hallmark holiday in our family. John and I make no attempts to celebrate it. I'm not surprised that I got no flowers, chocolates, or champagne cruises. Heck, we didn't even go dancing, and that's nearly a daily activity in our life.

However, the children, bless their hearts, were thrilled out of their minds about it, which lead to some of the best and worst moments of the day.

The bad news:

David was so excited about giving me breakfast in bed that he woke us all up at 6:30. David was so excited about giving me breakfast in bed that he forgot to eat his breakfast, got overly hungry, and had a screaming fit on the way up to deliver my breakfast.

Remember how David woke us up at 6:30? Well, that made John tired and grumpy and precipitated a huge hypoglycemic fit in me later in the day. I can't blame it completely on David; in my attempts to celebrate Mother's Day with my mother, I got my lunch an hour late. I was shaking, felt like I was going to faint, couldn't talk because I would start screaming if I did, and was, in general, rather unpleasant to be around. I improved slightly after lunch and a nap but got extraordinarily grumpy again later in the day.

The good news

Both children made me beautiful, heartfelt cards.
Both children gazed deep into my eyes and gave me long loving hugs. I felt truly blessed.
Both children were exceedingly proud of themselves for keeping the secret (kind of) and delivering this special treat.
Because I was so grumpy in the evening, I took the kids and two of their friends to the park. They played happily, and I walked until I felt better.
