2012-06-18 6:23 PM the first day of summer vacation Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) It's not actually the first day of vacation. We have one more week of school. Thank goodness. But yesterday was the first day of Sunday school vacation. Some of my friends can't wait for the long lazy days of summer. Not me. Between a combination of misplaced Puritan ethic (idol hands are the devil's work), my going a little nuts when we just dawdle around the house, and the kids whining, complaining and bickering when we just dawdle around the house, I've gone into serious activity mode.
work in the garden Rose mowed the lawn, David ripped out dead things, and I ran back and forth between them assisting. Since none of us particularly like gardening, but it must get done, this went pretty well. We actually had a pleasant productive 45 minutes though they started stupid fighting (you carry the gloves! No, you carry the gloves!) on the way back to the house. swim suit shopping I am not fond of shopping. The commute, the parking, the misery of clothes that don't fit. But I had tried to buy Rose swimsuits online twice, and they didn't work. Land's End let me down. So, we went to Sylvia's and had great success. We found suits the right size and age appropriate. By that I mean they didn't make her look like a two year old fairy princess nor a teenage hooker. They are suits for the growing athlete that she is. This was a no fighting adventure. Whoohoo! haircuts David didn't want to get his haircut because he likes to twirl it. Rose didn't want to get her haircut because she wants to grow it to her waist. I wanted their hair cut, and sometimes mama wins. They both had a blast at the haircut place. What's not to like about t.v. and air hockey? They both freaked minorly about their cuts, but David can still twirl, and Rose's dried out ends are gone. Hair grows you know. swimming They both wanted to go swimming at my mom's, so why not? I like to swim. I like to have David practice his swimming. We just ignored the fact that it was 60 degrees and black clouds were rolling in. We all had a good time.
