Rose has been a very introspective person her whole life, so the self-doubts and worries of preteen life are hitting her particularly hard. Does J still like me? If A and B are friends, but I'm friends with A, what about B? Why doesn't everyone in the whole school want to be my best friend?

I try my best to just listen and feel honored that she shares with me.

We had a great moment yesterday when L, who goes to Sunday school and regular school with her, did something very nice for her. Rose figured out something nice to do back, but it also suddenly occurred to her that L did not have a best friend at school. L might need someone to give her attention. It might actually not be all about Rose. I know we have a long road, especially given Rose's personality, where she is going to be very worried about her own social standing, but it was nice to see a spontaneous seeing the world through someone else's eyes.
