As many of you know, I've been the guest poet with this teacher for the last seven years. It has been a dream gig. I get to teach poetry to kids who are enthused, focused, simply overjoyed to be working on poetry, and she does all the classroom management. I'm going to miss it because Ms. Humphrey is changing careers to organic gardening. I'll still do one shots with the various teachers at the school, but I doubt I'll get to do several weeks where I get to see them revise, experiment and amaze themselves.
The reading was amazing. All the kids (6-9 years old) stood in front of room of 40 people and projected. They read slowly with emotion and volume. And the poems ranged from the funny (David's) to the poignant to the sublime. Grandparents--I have David's taped. Ask me. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
