Rose has had three cello events in the last week. Hello, end of the school year. For event one, her orchestra went to Idaho for a contest and a trip to an amusement park. I was sort of tuned out for this one given that I had been out of town (Paris!) until two days before she left and, of course, wasn't at the event. The good parts were the orchestra played reasonably well, won a trophy, and Rose had a blast at the parks. The bad part was the air conditioning on her bus broke down on the five hour ride home, and she walked in the door exhausted and dehydrated. It took a week to recover.

But we didn't really have a week, because the end of the year concert was that Thursday. It lasted 2.5 hours. I don't like classical music. I'm trying, really I am, but even having my daughter seriously into it has not helped me connect. So, I'm sure they played just fine. The grandparents thought they were great. I just sat there and thought about my to do list for a long long time.

And then on Sunday was the cello recital. This is Rose's first year taking private lessons, and it's going really well. Her teacher appreciates how quickly she learns and her work ethic though she would appreciate more support from me. Yeah. My mom gets her there and I pay for all the lessons and books. That's about the level of support I can muster. Oh, and I came to the recital. There were fifteen kids and an hour and half of cello music. Rose played Danse Rustique by Squires. Grandparents--we have it taped. It seemed fine to me though I started to worry she wasn't breathing as her face got more and more red as she went along.

David came to both the school concert and the recital. He read through the first one and played outside through most of the second. I give him full credit. He loves Rose and shows up to support her. Me too.
