A cop out

The following in today's Guardian. The British goverment has decided not to take any action to restrict junk food adverts in children's TV programmes, despite the rapid increase in childhood obesity. Here.

What a cop out. There's a real problem here. The beginning of a solution exists. The government, elected by the people, chooses once again to side with big business instead of the health of the nation's children. Instead, it will ask the food industry to help support healthy eating campaigns. Right. That'll work then.

Children are influenced by adverts. If they weren't, businesses wouldn't spend multimillions on advertising. All the government can say is "it's complicated". No it isn't. It's simple. It just requires a backbone and some balls. This government hasn't had either for a long time.
