Many of you know that in Michigan we have an affinity for hockey that peaks somewhere around Shiite religious fanaticism. Playoff games especially leave us in a sort of epileptic seizure of ecstasy that the media has dubbed ‘cup crazy’. Local mental institutions actually have to request extra funding during this time of year to handle the tremendous influx of slobbering incoherent nut jobs.

Trust me

So last night the Red Wings lost a pretty close game to the number 8 seed Nashville Predators. I’m not too worried, we’re still up 2-1, and I think we just have too much depth and skill and Nashville wasn’t exactly playing like a confident team at the end of last nights game.

But the REAL reason I’m not worried about this series is because of what I believe is a karmic connection, a sort of cosmic balancing act if you will, between this team and the other Pizza Franchise owned sports team in Detroit; the Tigers. You see, when the tigers had their historic 119 loses last year it shook the sports-time continuum (or some such complicated thingy) and long-story-short the Red Wings were destined to win half as many games as the Tigers lost or 119/2 = 59.5. But this worries me because they’ve already won 50 games this year which means they will be stuck in the third round of the playoffs after winning only 59. I guess they’ll have to get the last 5 games on their own.
