I Think I'm Dying
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Mood:
Sick

I'm sick as a dog today. Whatever I ended up catching is currently having its way with me. I'm dizzy and can barely walk straight, I'm shaking all the time, I keep getting way too warm or way too cold, my temp is a little below 97 degrees, I can't eat or drink anything, and my thoughts are muddled. It even took me five minutes to figure out how to use the washing machine earlier today. I can't believe how bad the timing is. Today is totally wasted. I can't concentrate enough to work on my school work or my closing argument. This weekend I have to read about 100 pages for Race and the Law and write a small paper on the reading and get my closing argument together so I can present it on Monday. I really hope I'm feeling better tomorrow. This is so not cool. Even if I am better tomorrow I'm not sure I can get everything done by Monday. I need more time and I need to get better ASAP.

Anyway, I mentioned before that I would fill you in on my classes, so that's what I'm going to do in this entry. Please excuse me if I make no sense. As I'm sure you've realized, I'm way out of it right now.

Trial Practice: There is a maximum of 16 students in this class and it's filled to capacity with a hell of a long waiting list. It took me a year to get into. It teaches you how to be an attorney in a courtroom that has a jury in it.
On the up side: I'm taking it with the best Trial Practice Prof there is, I'll learn to overcome my fear of public speaking, I'll know how to work in a courtroom, I need this class if I end up going to work for the DA's office after graduation.
But it sucks because: There is a hell of a lot of work, I'm having to prep a closing argument in one week while sick, we can use no notes in our trials, I HATE speaking in front of people.
I'm really taking it because: I want to go into Criminal Law after graduation, and it's one of those necessary evils.

Community Property: This is an elective and has a good number of students in it. It teaches you about what happens to what you and your spouse own once you get married/divorced/die.
On the up side: It's with a Prof. I love, I'm getting married so it's good to know about it.
On the down side: I did poorly in property, it's kind of boring.
I'm really taking it because: It's on the bar.

Communications Law: This is an elective and has only about 15-20 people in it. It teaches you about first amendment rights with regards to the media.
On the up side: It's with my favorite Prof. of all time, it's something good to have if I go into entertainment law, it's an interesting topic, I learned the basics already in Constitutional Law Individual Rights.
On the down side: There's a good amount of reading.
I'm really taking it because: I love the Prof and wanted to have a class with him this semester.

Race and the Law: This is an elective that teaches about race, racism, and how the law deals with a diverse America. It's an elective class and there's only about 9 people in it.
On the up side: It's good to have under my belt if I end up going into criminal law, it's a fascinating class, I think everyone should learn about the different races and cultures - being white is not the norm and people should respect the fact that we're a diverse nation.
On the down side: The reading amounts are crazy, there's a small paper due every week, and there is a huge paper due at the end of the semester.
I'm really taking it because: I think it's an excellent opportunity to broaden my horizons.

Sentencing and Corrections: This is an elective that teaches the sentencing guidelines and shows the alternatives to incarceration. There are about 5 people in the class.
On the up side: The subject matter deals with criminal law so I love it, it's a fascinating class, I get a trip to prison, it just kicks ass.
On the down side: A lot of reading.
I'm really taking it because: I love anything to do with criminal law.

So, those are my classes for the Fall 2002 semester. As you can tell, there are no required classes. This is because I only have 2 left to go, and I want to take them in the Spring cause I like the profs who are teaching them then.

If you've actually read this whole entry - cool. I have a feeling a lot of people will just skim it. Anyway, I'm feeling a bit more dizzy so I think I'm going to log off and pass out for a bit.
