Today, Rob and I headed to the Halloween Haunt at Knott's. This is the first weekend it's open. We headed out of our place around 3pm. On the way there we saw a rather unusual sight. There was a foot in the middle of the 5 Freeway. Yes, you read that right, a foot. Rob and I were really hoping that it was a fake severed foot. But around LA, you never know. With traffic and everything we got there around 4:30pm, which gave us time to have dinner at The Chicken Dinner Restaurant, check out some shops (where I bought a cute orange and black small stuffed spider to bring with us - he's our new Haunt mascot and his name is Spurkey the Halloween Spider), and then head into the Haunt (which opens at 7pm, but lets in a bit earlier than that usually).

The Underground (the post-Apocalyptic maze) and The Inquisition (the torture maze) are both gone. Two new mazes for this year are a TV one and a Pirate one. A lot of the mazes have been moved around, so we grabbed a map when we headed into the park. The first maze that we went into was the TV one. It's a lot of old TV shows with a horror kick to them. Very cool maze. Both Rob and I thought it was rather neat.

After a quick rest break I sucked it up and decided to go into the Spider maze. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The first part (the show) freaked me out a bit (you could feel webs coming down from the ceiling and there was a rather disturbing rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider - the large spider descending also freaked me out). In the maze itself wasn't all that bad. The only things that freaked me out were a part when it looked like spiders were scuttling all over the walls and the fact that in some places if you brushed up against a wall, the wall was furry. The people in the spider costumes didn't bother me at all. It wasn't a bad maze, and it was nice being able to put aside my fear of spiders enough to go in there. It was all fake, and that I can handle. Besides, Spurkey the Halloween Spider is a good spider and was there to protect me.

From there it was on to the Log Ride which was turned into a werewolf themed haunted house ride. That one is always one of my favorites. Then we stopped for some milk shakes, Rob played a few carnival games and won, and we went to the Clown maze. Pretty much the same as last year, with a few minor tweaks. Decently cool.

After the clown maze we took another rest break and I realized something. It's a lot harder doing this sort of thing when you're a few weeks away from being 30 than it was the first time I went when I was 17. I'm getting old and my body just can't handle some of the things it could before. I don't like that. Mental note: must find a way to stop aging.

After the rest break we went on the mine ride which became the Underworld area. Super cool as usual. However, when we were in line the kid in front of us (and I do mean kid) kept ignoring the girl he was with and kept talking to me. Scary. I could be his Mom. Rob thought it was funny that a kid was flirting with me (ew) and said it would have been amuzing to make him crap his pants and ask him sternly "Are you hitting on my wife?". After the Underworld mine ride we went through the Malice in Wunderland maze. As usual, it kicked ass. Nothing says fun like a sick and twisted horror version of Alice in Wonderland. Then we did Hatchet High, which is a weird haunted high school thing. Not bad. We decided to skip Blood Bayou because it sucked last year and because it was getting a bit late and there were still three other mazes we wanted to do.

The Asylum was next on our list. This year it's tucked far away in some area out in one of the parking lots. Still, it was pretty cool. Then we went through the Pirate maze which was very... eh. And last it was the Vampire maze which is always my number one favorite.

By then it was 1am (the park closes at 2am) and I wanted to get out of there before the rush of people let out. I hate getting stuck in the parking lot rush to get out. We headed out and all I wanted to do was get home and take a shower. I felt so grimy. However, the 5 freeway was closed in a part I wasn't at all familiar with. I had no idea how we would get home. We exited the freeway and Rob tried to find a way home with my Thomas Guide while I followed a semi. I figured if anyone would know how to get to LA it would be the truck driver. Traffic on the side street they diverted us onto was a nightmare. It took over an hour to go a few blocks. Finally, we made it back onto the freeway and got home.

On the way home we picked up some Del Taco (we were both rather hungry). The minute we got home I jumped in the shower. A shower never feels as good as when you're all nasty and grimy. After I showered Rob showered as well. We then ate our tacos while watching some TV. I'm awake now so I'm on here posting and soon I'll be on Neopets. My whole body hurts like hell from my night at Knott's. It was rather fun though.
