Last night Rob and I did the dinner and a movie thing over in Burbank. We had dinner at The Golden Chicken and then saw a 7pm showing of War of the Worlds. All in all I kind of liked it.

The first half of the movie was absolutely amazing. Both Rob and I were stunned at how well it was done and how incredible the action scenes were. It even managed to scare me and creep me out - not many movies can do that. But from the time Tom Cruise's character and his daughter went into the basement with a demented Tim Robbins, the movie went downhill. The second half was okay. It paled in comparison to the first half and was a wee bit on the boring side after all the action of the first half. The ending was a complete cop-out let down. It was like they needed a way to wrap things up fast... so let's see... germs! That'll end it fast! LAME!. I know, I know, that's how the book ended. And you know something, I thought that was lame as well. Just seemed like a total cop-out way to end things quickly. And with as much that they changed from the book (as all movies do) you would think that maybe they could change the ending to something that wasn't a lame-ass let down. *sigh* Also it seemed they tried to force a "happy ending" and one of the characters that should have died was miracously alive and well in Boston at the end. Like I said, lame.

So if you see it, just keep in mind that once they head into the basement, it all goes downhill from there. In general, I would recommend it because the first half was so amazing. I just wish it could have stayed that way. The second half and the ending turned what could have been Speilburg's best movie into something that was just okay. I hate it when the ending is disappointing.
